The aim of this series is to bring together important recent writings in major areas of philosophical inquiry, selected from a variety of sources, mostly periodicals, which may not be conveniently available to the university student or general reader. The editor of each volume contributes an introductory essay on the items chosen and on the questions with which they deal. A selective bibliography is appended as a guide to further reading.

RALPH C. S. WALKER is Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy at Magdalen College, Oxford, and author of Kant (Routledge, 1978). The present collection is designed to present a coherent introduction to Kant's Critique of Pure Reason. It contains nine of the most stimulating and useful articles in English on the C~itique, representing a variety of different approaches to Kant. Nevertheless there is an overall unity of theme, in a shared concern with transcendental arguments and the synthetic a priori.
